Students Attend YIG Conference

Our Youth in Government Club, sponsored by Mrs. Julie Meeks and Mrs. Kimberly Wilson, attended the YIG Conference in Columbia Nov. 12-14.  Students debated and wrote bills, presented them, and made laws.  4 of their bills made it through committee on Sunday.  One of the bills, written by Peyton Rollins, Field Easler, and Taylor Morgan, was about increasing SC minimum wage passed in both chambers, but was vetoed by the governor. Hunter Lancaster and Haston Meeks wrote a bill about requiring drug testing for high school athletic scholarship recipients which was signed into law by the YIG governor. Riley Ruane was selected to serve as a member of the YIG governor's staff.   Peyton Rollins and Alia Goode received the award for outstanding statesman.
