R. P. Dawkins Middle School is named in honor of Mr. R. P. Dawkins, a dedicated educator, who worked in Spartanburg School District Six for nearly four decades. Mr. Dawkins served as principal of Lincoln Middle School, in Fairforest, for many years. In April of 1983, the District Six School Board voted to change the name of Lincoln Middle School to R. P. Dawkins Middle School. The school was formally dedicated August, 1983. In June 1995, the original R. P. Dawkins Middle School was closed. The building currently in use was once Blackstock Elementary School. After substantial renovation, with the addition of an 8th grade and fine arts wing, R. P. Dawkins Middle School opened in its present location in August of 1995. |
